THE PARTS OF A RESEARCH PAPER

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 | Education with

A research paper is a sustained inquiry on a specific topic or argument, which you will have to support with facts related to it and directly affecting it. And while some students may have had good experiences and not-so-good experiences writing it, you may have to refresh yourself with key points in making it. To start off right, you must know the basic parts of a research paper, so that you can create a good organization of data flowing, while in the process of writing it, and even within the context of your final output. Here are the major parts of the research paper:

Title Page. In this page, you are supposed to write your paper’s title, a sub title, your name as the researcher, and essential dates enclosing your paper.

Preface. This is where you are supposed to talk about your topic, its essence on your field of study, and its impact on your perceptions, and in general societal perceptions.

Table of Contents. This describes in detail the content of your paper, their page numbers in order of organization.

Abstract. This is where you talk about your topic in brief, its purpose, some descriptions, the results of your research, and if possible, a conclusion.

Introduction. This part of the research paper defines and encloses the background of your topic, the specific motivations in your topic choice and how it affects your audience, and a simple overview of the study, itself.

Materials and Method. This is the part where you specify the tools that you have used to accomplish your study, in detail.

Results. It shows the results of your research.

Discussion. Like an essay, this part of the research paper discusses the research topic, supports, conflicts or challenges it.

Bibliography. You may list your references here.

Keeping these things in mind, you will be able to create a good, organized research paper that will earn you a good grade. Moreso, the best tip is to take your paper seriously, yet, enjoy it.
