PRUDENCE IN CREATING A TERM PAPER OUTLINE

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 | Education with

The actual process of writing a term paper is long and tedious. With a practical and useful outline, however, the process becomes a journey for the writer to actively engage in shaping the topic. The outline serves as a map where the statements and arguments are clearly indicated in order to smoothen out their transition up to the statement of conclusion.

A good outline highlights all the major statements that will support the writer’s claim. By following the outline, the writer reduces the occurrence of confusion and difficulty in unifying proofs and citations made. Many writers who work without an outline, more often than not, end up making too many unnecessary editing in order to make the statements coherent with one another. A student who has concerns other than writing a particular term paper must invest a sufficient amount of time in creating a good outline based on the data obtained from various sources.

An effective outline largely depends on the available information which the author has obtained. Hence, research is critical. A well-researched activity yields a lot of relevant information. The outline would put this information into perspective. A weak research activity would give an outline with scant and weak statements. Hence, the outline is the result of a good research and not the other way around.

Always remember that the term paper’s aim is to guide the reader to various aspects of statements and arguments without confusion. An outline gives the foundation for such goal and gives a pleasant learning experience for both the writer and reader.
