ARE GUARANTEED SEARCH ENGINE RANKINGS POSSIBLE?

Friday, May 2nd, 2008 | Technology & Internet with No Comments »

With the rising growth in online spending spurred by the movement of advertising dollars spent on offline media such as newspapers and Yellow Pages, the landscape of online search has become one of the hottest avenues for business owners large and small to enter.

The popularity of search engine marketing gives rise to online business behemoths like Google and Yahoo. Billions are being spent to advertise online using PPC and SEO services. While rankings are no longer as easy to attain as previously, it is still attainable with the right approach.

Online marketing and SEO consultants offer a glimpse of how this is possible. Here are three important concepts to take note for success:

Detailed keyword research and analysis - Before any campaign begins, your SEO must perform some due diligence. This process takes time. Performing keyword research to gather the a pool of keywords is vital to finding the hidden gold. Too often, you’ll want to get the most popular term because it is most likely to drive a ton of traffic. This generally, however, is not a good move to make for a site. Unless the site already has some authority in the search engines, it is unwise to go after a highly competitive term. The only time that popular keyword should even be considered is after the complete analysis of all the important terms have been done. This is when you can see the overall big picture of what are good candidate keywords for your SEO campaign.

Link building consistency - In order to sustain long-term rankings, a consistent effort to build inbound links for the website must be in place. Even if you already rank number one, keep in mind that others covet your ranking and will attempt to topple it. A consistent link building program wards off these potential drops and also lets the search engine know that your site is worthy of being ranked at the top because your inbound links (which is analogous to a vote) says so.

Variety of inbound links - Building inbound links is not about quantity alone. Quality and variety are crucial to building top rankings across all the major search engines. Consider a variety of sources other than text links or articles. Pre-sell pages, social bookmarking, and blog reviews are also excellent sources. In addition, a search engine’s algorithm is subject to change at any time and a diversified inbound link building program helps to prevent sudden and major drops in your search results

TRAFFIC GENERATION BEGINS WITH SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION

Friday, March 21st, 2008 | Technology & Internet with No Comments »

Oftentimes, I hear from businesses with an online presence that SEO should be put off till later so they can generate some quick cash through paid ads like PPC. Pay-per-click is a great way to build an online business if click costs are managed properly. This is where professional PPC management can help control click spend.

Search engine optimization, however, should not be put off till a few months or even years later. As a SEO expert says, it is recommended that websites should maintain a consistent ramp-up of optimization activity by building on second or third tier keywords. By doing so, the company will more likely rank for those terms faster and start generating profits which can be poured back into more SEO efforts.

It is best to begin site optimization at the beginning stage of the site. Taking note of the on-page factors such as content creation, HTML title tags, meta description, meta keywords, and alt tags are all important starting points. Depending on budget, a company will want to start some basic off-page optimization as well. Commonly known as link building, some of the easiest and cheapest ways of building fast links are through article syndication and commenting on blogs. Article syndication can take some of your time to complete for the hundreds of article sites out there but it is a no-cost way of generating links from quality content you provide. Now, commenting on blogs doesn’t mean blog comment spam. It means actually visiting the site and reading the posts before inserting a simple, yet relevant comment.

For companies with extra marketing dollars, deploying advanced SEO services is the way to go. These are usually services that use highly sophisticated techniques that search engines love. Using a combination of advanced link building techniques, a business can begin rising to the top for more competitive terms. For top quality SEO, find a reputable and professional SEO company to do your work. Nothing is costlier than having to start all over with a new site because the SEO provider used some questionable SEO techniques that got your site banned.

EBAY TO CUT PRICES??

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008 | Technology & Internet with 1 Comment

In a recent press release, Ebay has announced that it will cut listing prices on its site by up to 50%. This includes listing fees as well as other fees and expenses faced by sellers. Ebay’s decision was its latest effort to stay competitive against up and coming e-commerce sites, particularly free sites such as Craigslist.

The cut in prices will come to Ebay on February 20th. Sellers will be able take advantage of discounted auction fees. However, this decrease in fees, will lead to an increase in commission on goods that sell. For example a 5% commission on an item that sells for $100, will now increase to a 7% commission. However, this decreases the risk sellers have when they list their items for sale on Ebay. If their item does not sell, thay are not paying such high listing fees, then losing the money when no one bids on their item.

“A majority of sellers will see their fees go down,” said company spokesman Usher Lieberman. “We are basing our success on their success and we want to encourage sellers to list more items with us.”

So far these changes will only affect sellers in North America, but Ebay hopes to expand these prices changes to the UK and Germany in the next few months.
